Lecture: Diaspora of Tropical Vegetables π±
A journey through taste, culture, history, and the power of plants.
Where does bitter melon actually come from? How has this special tropical vegetable spread and managed to survive through the centuries, from continent to continent and from generation to generation?
During this inspiring lecture, we dive into the fascinating diaspora of Surinamese vegetables, with sopropo as the special protagonist. Expect in-depth stories, exciting anecdotes, and surprising facts and myths about the origin, spread, and cultural significance of these special vegetables.
We are also introduced to the taste of bitter and discover how this taste is viewed not only from a culinary perspective, but also from an energetic one.
After the lecture, we conclude with a short tour of the Inspiration Garden, where we connect the stories with the plants growing in the garden today.
Let yourself be taken on a special journey through tropical plants, migration, taste, and culture!
